New Years Eve

I now weigh 1.09 kg!!!  Mommy and I did KMC 3 times today :)

It's Oh So Quiet...

My oxygen is back down to 21%...I had a very good night...Mommy and I did KMC for 3 hours! Most of the other babies have gone home...its quiet here in the NICU...

Coffee?

Dr Roos is looking after me today...I am getting caffeine to help with apnea...a shortline drip was inserted because I am getting some antibiotics to fight off a possible infection...

Booties

I had a good night...Mommy and I did KMC again today...I have special drops made for my nose...it helps to soften whatever is causing it to block up...Aunty Shanita thinks that it may be the cartilage in my left nostril that has grown closed because I had the ET tube in my right nostril from when I was so small...I had a good day :) I got to wear my own hat and booties :)

Two Months old!

This morning my oxygen had been put up to 27%...My nose has been blocking up, I am being suctioned a lot but the catheter can't go into my left nostril properly...I had a chest x-ray...Dr Egner says he can see improvement and that my lungs have grown a bit...I had a better evening...

Oh What A Night!

My feed was increased to 9 ml per hour -  continuous feed...I don't need physiotherapy anymore :) I sucked my dummy properly for the first time...Mommy and I did a lot of KMC today...I started feeling a bit distressed during the night...I kept desaturating...my oxygen was put back up to 30%...I was suctioned a few times but it didn't help much...Dr Egner was phoned and he ordered chest x-rays to be done...the x-ray department still hadn't arrived after 45 minutes and by that time Dr Egner had decided to come out and check on me...he discovered that my one nostril had blocked - possibly from drying out from the oxygen from the nasal prongs....he managed to unblock my nostril and I was immediately fine again...my oxygen was turned down to 21% and the x-rays were cancelled!

My First Christmas!

Mommy and I did "christmas KMC" for 2 hours this morning and then again for 1 hour this evening...my oxygen flow was turned down to 1 and the oxygen is on 22%...

Double up!

Mommy and I did KMC for two hours again this morning...Then I had physio and an opthalmologist came to check my eyes for Retinopathy Of Prematurity...He was happy and said my eyes looked perfect...I now weigh 1,035 kg!! Only 5 grams short of double my birth weight!  My daddy and I had a good cuddle!

One week off the vent!

I am now 8 weeks old!  My weight is now 975 grams...I have been off the ventilator for one whole week!  Mommy held me for a while :)

Drip Free

All my medication has now been changed to oral form and my drip has been completely removed...I had a good stretch after it was taken out...

Brainy

Dr Egner is happy with everything...my feed was increased to 8 ml per hour - continuous feed...my drip was stopped and shortlined...my antibiotic was stopped...I had a brain scan this morning to check for any bleeds...Dr Egner told my parents that they discovered that I do indeed have a brain...he thinks he is funny...my oxygen was reduced to 23%...

910 grams!

My weight is now 910 grams...I have dropped a little in the last few days...I desatted a bit and had a brief episode of apnea but otherwise I am doing very well...

Plain Sailing

I did very well today...no issues...I love sleeping on my tummy :)

Fifth Blood Transfusion

My feed was increased to 7ml per hour - continuous feed.  I am doing well today.  I've had a few desats but after being suctioned I have been fine...I had my fifth blood transfusion this afternoon...I have been wide awake most of the day...

Wishy Washy

I had a very good night.  Gervais looked after me and he was very happy...I now weigh 930 grams...my oxygen was turned down to 25%...Aunty Silindile looked after me today...She gave me a good wash with cotton balls and water - my first proper clean since I was born...She also replaced all my probes...mommy and daddy got to see my chest properly for the first time...mommy held me while aunty S'li was busy with me...when my drip was removed I gave my first audible cry - the first time mommy and daddy ever heard me :) Dr Egner increased my feed to 6 ml per hour...he said he was very optimistic this time and hoped that I would not pick up another chest infection...Mommy and I did KMC...
